Lesson: Isaiah 25:6-8
On this mountain the Lord of hosts will make for all peoples
a feast of rich food, a feast of well-matured wines,
of rich food filled with marrow, of well-matured wines strained clear.
And he will destroy on this mountain
the shroud that is cast over all peoples,
the sheet that is spread over all nations;
he will swallow up death for ever.
Then the Lord God will wipe away the tears from all faces,
and the disgrace of his people he will take away from all the earth,
for the Lord has spoken.
Gospel: Matthew 22:1-14
The Parable of the Wedding Banquet
Once more Jesus spoke to them in parables, saying: ‘The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wedding banquet for his son. He sent his slaves to call those who had been invited to the wedding banquet, but they would not come. Again he sent other slaves, saying, “Tell those who have been invited: Look, I have prepared my dinner, my oxen and my fat calves have been slaughtered, and everything is ready; come to the wedding banquet.” But they made light of it and went away, one to his farm, another to his business, while the rest seized his slaves, maltreated them, and killed them. The king was enraged. He sent his troops, destroyed those murderers, and burned their city. Then he said to his slaves, “The wedding is ready, but those invited were not worthy. Go therefore into the main streets, and invite everyone you find to the wedding banquet.” Those slaves went out into the streets and gathered all whom they found, both good and bad; so the wedding hall was filled with guests.
‘But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing a wedding robe, and he said to him, “Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding robe?” And he was speechless. Then the king said to the attendants, “Bind him hand and foot, and throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” For many are called, but few are chosen.

Giving and Receiving (“Give us this day”…)
This came over the Internet recently:
A group of students was asked to write down what they thought were the seven great wonders of the world. Some were in disagreement but the items which came in with the most votes from the majority were as follows:
1. Egypt’s Great Pyramids
2. The Taj Mahal
3. The Grand Canyon
4. The Panama Canal
5. The Empire State Bldg.
6. St. Peter’s Basilica
7. China’s Great Wall.
As the teacher collected the papers, one girl was late in handing hers’ in. Asked if she was having trouble choosing the seven, she replied: “Yes, because there are so many to choose from.”
The teacher encouraged her by saying, read the class what you have maybe we can help you choose. The girl read what she had written: The great wonders of the world are:
1. To see
2. To hear
3. To touch
4. To feel
5. To love
6. To laugh
7. But the greatest wonder of all is God’s amazing
Love for mankind in sending His Only Son, Jesus to set us free from sin and give us eternal life.
When the girl finished reading from her paper, it was said that you could hear a pin drop in the classroom. Christians are so quick to make the wrong choices about the most important things in life. Martin Luther in his explanation to the fourth petition of the Lord’s Prayer in the small Catechism says: “God gives us daily bread indeed without our prayer…..”
“What then, is meant by daily bread? Everything that belongs to the support and wants of the body, (to paraphrase) such as: food….….health…..discipline…..good friends….and the like.
He gives, we receive.
In Africa, when one receives a gift, then it’s their turn to give and this act is very important!
What do I have that I can give to Him? My daily repentance and faith in Him, and my witness to others of His saving love daily in my life.

Chuckle of the Week
Teacher Debbie Moon's first graders were discussing a picture of a family. One little boy in the picture had a different hair color than the other members. One of her students suggested that he was adopted.
A little girl said, "I know all about adoption, I was adopted."
"What does it mean to be adopted?" asked another child.
"It means", said the girl, "that you grew in your mommy's heart instead of her tummy!"
