About us

St. Matthew Lutheran Church is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church In America located in Beaverton Oregon.

In 1942, the Northwestern District of the American Lutheran Church sent a young pastor to Beaverton Oregon to begin a mission church. More than 60 years later we celebrate the many blessings bestowed upon this congregation through the work of God's faithful servants.

St. Matthew has been located at 10390 SW Canyon Rd in Beaverton since 1960. Designed by world renowned architect Peitro Belushci, the current Nave and Narthex were dedicated in December 1984.  This year we are excited to have paid off the debt on this beautiful facility and we now look to the future, seeking God's call on our faith community.

One of St. Matthew's goals is to be a true family of Christ.  We care for each other and for our community.  We are particularly intentional in being a resource to families raising children in the Christian faith.  We challenge for each person in our faith family to find God's design and purpose for their life and to live that out in serving Him.

Numerous ministries have started up in the past years, and we have grown in many ways to align those with the vision that God has placed in our hearts.  We have become a purpose driven Lutheran church, based around the five purposes of worship, evangelism, fellowship, discipleship, and ministry.  These five purposes can be found in the Great Commandment and the Great Commission.

Come and worship with us and experience God's vision and purpose for your life.  Our 8:30 is a traditional Lutheran service, 9:45 is contemporary, and 11:00 is a praise and worship service.  The sermons are similar at each service.
