About us

St. Matthew Lutheran Church is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church In America located in Beaverton Oregon.

In 1942, the Northwestern District of the American Lutheran Church sent a young pastor to Beaverton Oregon to begin a mission church. More than 60 years later we celebrate the many blessings bestowed upon this congregation through the work of God's faithful servants.

St. Matthew has been located at 10390 SW Canyon Rd in Beaverton since 1960. Designed by world renowned architect Peitro Belushci, the current Nave and Narthex were dedicated in December 1984.

We began a new era in the life of St. Matthew with the arrival of Senior Pastor, Eric Burtness on December 1, 1997.  Pastor Eric brought new vitality to our goal of being a resource to families raising children in the Christian faith.  The challenge for each of us is to find God's design and purpose for our lives.

Numerous ministries have started up in the past years, and we have grown in many ways to align those with the vision that God has placed in our hearts.  We have become a purpose driven Lutheran church, based around the five purposes of worship, evangelism, fellowship, discipleship, and ministry.  These five purposes can be found in the Great Commandment and the Great Commission.

Come and worship with us and experience God's vision and purpose for your life.  Our 8:30 is a traditional Lutheran service, 9:45 is contemporary, and 11:00 is a praise and worship service.  The sermons are similar at each service.
